How did you get into roller derby? A combination of reading about it/watching YouTube videos and meeting a few girls who skated for a nearby league got me really inspired to start skating.

What makes Roller Derby that ideal new sport for girls to try out? As stated above, it is completely accessible! Most leagues provide training for complete beginners so whether you have never set foot in a pair of skates, or are already able to skate, this is a sport that anyone can do. But obviously to be a really great skater it takes a little more!

Whatas your fitness routine?I skate a minimum of 6 hours a week, sometimes more, and work a physical job, I don’t have a lot of time for extra fitness!

What nutritional advice can you pass on to us? I’m still gathering this advice myself! I’m so guilty of just eating utter rubbish all the time, but the skating is such good fitness it balances it out! I probably should start eating better though.

What is the biggest challenges you face with competing/training?I am a very slow learner, and I am very harsh on myself. It takes me a while to pick up new skills and I get really frustrated with myself. It’s sometimes hard watching the other girls around me picking things up first time, but I always remind myself to be patient!

Whoas your biggest inspiration? Cheesey moment alert! Honestly my biggest inspiration is my team mate Hanaconda. She came from being a long legged clumsy shy lady, who won the ‘most epic fall’ award at our 1st birthday party, to being one of my teams star jammers and poster girl in just over a year. She’s made fans off the back of the few games we’ve played and is us just getting stronger and better every day!

Do you have any quotes you say to yourself to motivate yourself during your performance/to get out and train? I don’t have any specific quotes, but just general ‘cmonnnnn’ type moans and groans!

What has been your favourite memory from your sporting career so far? There has been SO many, but probably has to be the weekend we went away to Scotland to play the Central Belters. The whole weekend was amazing, and to top it off we came away with a huge victory! I wish I could put into words how amazing it felt and to share it with the girls I have been working with for the year and a half prior, all for that moment! It’s a memory I will always share with fresh meat or people who are considering joining the sport!

Do you have a team of people to support you?If so, how do they aid you? Being a part of my team means I have a HUGE extended family that are there for me every second of the day, no matter what! For example when my car broke down on the side of a duel carriageway on my birthday I had a phone call off prettying every member of my league offering help! Wether it was coming to get me, bringing me food, going to halfords to buy the parts needed to fix it, everyone had my back. Don’t know what I would do without my derby family!

Women in sports have huge obstacles to overcome, what steps are you taking to raise awareness for women in sports? We are just trying to get our sport out there in the public! We are constantly speaking to news papers, attending events as a team, contributing to charities etc. all the help women see that there is a sport for them out there, no matter what circumstances they are in!

Whatas your ultimate lifetime ambition? To play for team Wales in the Roller Derby World Cup! Dream big!!

Do you have any last pieces of advice for all the girls out there looking up to you as a role model? Pick a better role model, haha! I am only where I am because I set my self a goal and didn’t stop until I got there. I have got a long long way to go still, but I also have came a long way! Just keep your eyes on the goal and do whatever you can to get there, and then once you are there, set yourself another! It all pays off in the end.
