Fred Butler’s acclaimed return to London Fashion Week continues to go from strength to strength with the presentation of her Autumn/Winter 2012 live presentation offering another unmistakably Fred Butler experience bringing together fashion, music and art to disarming effect. Her signature psychedelic approach to color and boundary defying perspective create accessory-focused art pieces, completely unique within the current-day fashion landscape.

“Tank Top-Ranking, Tongue-Tied and Twisted” is inspired by a quilted ski jacket Fred Butler once made with swirling stitches evoking Sushi rolls, leading to a Japanese theme with an en-piste aesthetic featuring layers of belts and knots based on the obijime ties of Kimono. Colours are based on a Sushi-inspired palette of washed out Wasabi greens, pickled ginger soft pinks, caviar coral oranges, subtle salmon flesh tones and monochrome black and white mimicking the contrast of rice against seaweed wraps. Twisted, knotted accessories sit atop knitted undergarments; a collaboration with EDE who specialize in English produced hand knits. Shoes in collaboration with Rosy Nicholas for the second season combine her trademark French knitted tubes.

The partnership of fashion and music has always been an important part of Fred’s work, and this season, as part of a collaboration enabled by Red Bull Catwalk Studio Fred has been working with Charli XCX on a bespoke soundtrack for the collection. The exclusive track will be performed live by Charli at Fred’s presentation and will be available for free downloaded from www.redbull.co.uk/catwalkstudio. Charli XCX said “Working with Fred has been an amazing experience, I think fashion and music are intrinsically linked so it’s an honour to be part of Fashion Week with her. We’ve worked on the soundtrack for her show, and the song that’s come out of it sounds like a tropical explosion of colour and magic”.

Since graduating from The University of Brighton in 2003, Fred Butler has amassed an enviable industry following after involvement in countless projects and commissions for editorial, journalism and corporate clients. Fred Butler’s ever expanding portfolio of clients includes celebrities such as Bjork, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Beth Ditto, Patrick Wolf and La Roux; corporate clients including Swatch, MTV, Nike, Samsung, Havaiana and Mini.
