The long awaited adult novel from the creator of Harry Potter, J K Rowling, has hit the shelves this Thursday.

Book shops opened their doors early this morning to deal with the demand, where staff were wheeling crates of the books at 8am this morning.

Although the lines were shorter than the Harry Potter books produced, filled with cloak wearing, wizard wannabes, but this novel has still caused a buzz of excitement for book lovers.

The book which was published 5 years after the final Harry Potter is already number 1 on the Amazon US charts, reported Washington Times.  William Hill has put the 2/1 odds on The Casual Vacancy outselling Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which sold a massive 2.6million copies.

Rowling is aiming to be a modern Dickens, by producing a multi character saga, whose doses of sex, satire and swearing mark a distinct departure from Harry Potter.

Is this a novel for the people who grew up with Harry Potter and are now mid twenties or older? I think yes.

The book has had a mixed bag of reviews, where the Guardian stated it was

“no masterpiece, but it’s not bad at all: intelligent, workmanlike, and often funny.”

Can’t wait to get my hands on this one!
